“Spellbound: Scenography of a Dream”, is an exciting museum tour that sees the scenography created by the Master of Surrealism Salvador Dalí for Alfred Hitchcock's 1945 film “I'll Save You”, the Spellbound, exhibited in Europe for the first time. This unfolds a journey through themes that touch on both the Catalan master's surrealist art, with over one hundred works including bronze sculptures, Daum glassworks, graphics, illustrated books, Dalinian tarot cards, priceless surrealist design objects and furnishings, and the impressions of thriller cinema.

The exhibition, inaugurated on April 14, 2022, is ongoing until September 30, 2022 at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta in the heart of the historic center of Naples.

The exhibition is curated by Beniamino Levi, president of The Dalí Universe and is directed by Roberto Panté, Artistic Director of The Dalí Universe.

The Museographic Project

Phantasya created the museographic project, starting from the creation of the theme with a strongly cinematic profile: it retraces the narrative arc that the protagonist of the film plays, outlining a thematic itinerary that addresses the themes of paranoia and memory loss, dream phase, psychoanalysis and memory recovery.
The surreal suggestion of Dalini's works, the presence of multimedia exibits with a strong impact, the widespread use of sounds, voiceovers and soundtracks, have the aim of creating a very strong emotional involvement of the viewer, who, following the same psychological path as the protagonist of the film, in addition to enjoying the very high-profile artistic content, will also have an introspective experience through a journey within his own unconscious.

The Exhibits

Framing and supporting the artistic scope of the works are several multimedia exhibits; projections, video mapping, holograms, and an interactive table that, in addition to displaying the route, allows younger visitors to play playful applications created in keeping with the exhibition.
The exhibits stage Dalinian symbols and images related to Hitchcock's film. The result is a blend of art and sensoriality, but also the possibility of better representing the psychological hummus underlying Dalí's production and the film.

The setups

Each area of the route has a original soundtrack and a Dalinian voiceover as background. Phantasya also oversaw the exhibition's exhibition design: the creation of display cases and supports for the works, designed specifically for the exhibition, panels and infographics scattered along the exhibition itinerary, and the illuminotecnica project. The interior design is designed to graft references from the cinematic world (billboards, credits, on-screen credits, and so on) with surreal symbolism.

On the outside of the basilica, a monumental bronze statue by the Catalan artist complements the location.
